Survey of Heavy Drinkers
WASHINGTON (AP)--A national survey suggests that up to 20% of those who become heavy drinkers can and do switch to more moderate elbow-bending during a relatively short time. This apparent turnover in heavy drinkers, a psychologist said, should encourage those who are trying to help cure [sic] alcoholics.
Don Cahalan of Berkeley, Calif., cited the survey on the prevalence of problem drinking in a report to the 77th annual convention of the American Psychological Association.
