The 'Normal' Alcoholic

Father Bill Prasch, S.J., Counselor and Lecturer on Alcohol Problems at Seattle University, Seattle, Wash., sends us word on a project conducted by Dr. James Milam, a clinical psychologist:

"The 'emergent comprehensive concept' of Dr. Milam is that alcoholism is, in most cases, primary and progressively pathological, resulting in personality deterioration derivative from the addiction itself. He has carefully verified this by administering the Minnesota MPI to 100 patients at Cedar Hills Treatment Center near Seattle. The first administering of the test occurs 10 days after the alcoholic's release from jail into the treatment center, and the second is given 71 days after the first testing.
