In 1970, pharmacists filled more than 225,000,000 prescriptions for mind-affecting drugs, compared with 166,000,000 in 1965, a spokesman for the R, A. Gosselin Co., a drug auditing concern in Dedham, Mass., said.

The number of Americans taking mood or mind-affecting drugs is not known. But some psychiatrists estimated that one-third of the adult American- population has prescriptions for such drugs.
