Are men and women driven to drink by the same or different things? The question was raised by two scientists who had 30 female and 30 male alcoholics on hand for comparison. N. H. Rathod and I. G. Thomson studied patients in the alcohol ward of an English hospital.
Ten of the women but none of the men had been treated for mental illness before their uncontrolled drinking began. Eleven women but only two of the men had had a try at suicide.
