Everybody wants to help the alcoholic--as long as the fellow doesn't get too close. Like: a halfway house in your neighborhood: or an alcoholic in your family doctor's waiting room; or a room in your church being used by an AA group; or your child being taught by an ex-alcoholic [sic] or a former addict; or your minister or priest beset by alcoholism.
