Book Review - 'The Ghost in My Life'

This is Susan B. Anthony's odyssey, and few works of fiction contain more adventure, suspense, sex, folly, and intrigue. The "ghost" is the author's great-aunt, whose name she bears--the mother of the 19th Amendment. All Susan's young life, the name was both help and hindrance. The reader must judge whether or not the present-day Susan is still haunted, but it does appear that this dynamic woman has triumphed in her effort to establish an identity of her own.

Her book describes the ongoing recovery of an alcoholic. Manifestly, it is a story of spiritual growth. But, more than anything else, it is a colorful portrait of a brainy, brash, precocious, adventurous, warmhearted, often self-willed, impetuous, lovable, courageous woman, who has lived life to the full.
