About Alcoholism - Alcoholism Information, Research and Treatment

Book Review - A Quartet

Books on alcoholism, like alcoholics, come in all shapes and sizes. These four range from big and fat to small and thin.

Practical Alcoholism Programming, by J. George Strachan, is the fat one--420 pages. Mr. Strachan, himself a recovered alcoholic, is knowledgeable, having been indefatigable in the field for over 30 years. He has pioneered in various areas: clinics, institutions, seminars, alcohol study groups, and so on. In this splendid reference book will be found resource material equivalent to a long and clinical seminar study of the subject. The chapter on AA--34 fact-filled pages--is comprehensive. Conclusion: "AA should be looked upon as the most significant ally available to those working in the field of alcohol studies." Quotations from Dr. John L. Norris and Dr. E. M. Jellinek about AA are thought-provoking. Recommended. (Mitchell Press, Ltd., Vancouver, B.C. Price: $12.50)
