Never too old

A delegate from Canada reminds us not to forget about our octogenarian members

As a delegate for Area 78 Alberta/Northwest Territories, I’ve heard a great deal of discussion recently about AA being more inclusive. With respect to the elderly, I wonder if we’re doing all we can. Our older members deserve to be heard. They are valuable mentors.

Also, older members who enter the rooms of AA for the first time should be treated with the same respect and kindness we extend to the younger newcomer. And they should be encouraged to be active in service. Area 78 had a DCM who was still active in general service at the age of 83. At the end of the last rotation, he said he was retiring from general service “with deep regret,” yet he went on to organize his district’s roundup last spring!
