Alcoholism and Criminality

Antisocial personality, alcoholism, and drug dependency are the most common psychiatric disorders associated with criminality, [said] Samuel B. Guze, MD, of the Department of Psychiatry, Washington University School of Medicine.

Dr. Guze based his talk on a long-term study of convicted felons begun in 1959. The psychiatric results of the first phase of the investigation showed alcoholism in 43% of the felons.
