Picking up

Even in my drinking days, I walked a lot with my dog. Many times my walks included a “sippy cup” of vodka and some sort of mixer. I’d often find spare change on the ground. I’d always up pick pennies, dimes and quarters with the self-pity mind-set of an alcoholic. I’d think, I better keep whatever money I can, so when I get fired and am broke, I’ll still have at least a little money to buy enough booze just to take the edge off.

Well, eventually I did get fired, but I didn’t stop drinking right away. By the grace of God I made it into the rooms and eventually surrendered to my Higher Power and got sober.
