My Real Third Step

After years of unemployment, he faces the loss of his home—but turning his life over to a Higher Power meant finally turning his life around

In 1985, I bought the automotive repair business my father started in the early fifties. I had worked there since grade school. A few of you may remember “full service” gas stations where we pumped your gas, washed your windshield, checked you oil, etc. I had a wood box to stand on in order to reach the windshields. I worked there through high school and junior college where I took classes related to running a business. While I was attending college and working at the shop part-time, my father added an addition three times the size of the original building, knowing I would be there to help run the business. The shop was the only place I had ever worked. For over forty years, it was a big part of my life.
