Never Drunk--but Alcoholics

PARIS, FRANCE--Dr. Jacques Godard, senior specialist with the National Committee Against Alcoholism (Comité National de Défense Centre 1'Alcoolisme) sees a sad side to the European Common Market. When all the trade barriers are abolished, he said, millions of liters of red wine from the surplus of the south of France will be released on northern Europe, hitherto the beer and liquor belt.

For the French, he said, [the danger] is double-edged. They savor the pricier German and English beers, and Scotch has always been the first sign of an improved standard of "living." Rid of import duties, these beverages will add to the drinking Frenchman's choice.
