Nursed back

The first time I came into the rooms of AA was on a court order after a Memorial Day fiasco in 2005. I believed at the time that I had been scared straight. I was riddled with fear that the DUI would result in me losing my employment as a nurse and educator.

My second DUI occurred in February of 2009, after a birthday celebration. The highway patrol found me asleep behind the wheel in a major intersection in the early hours of the morning. I picked up a third DUI while I was waiting to get into the DUI court program for multiple offenders. My employer was notified of my arrest. I lost my privilege of working as a registered nurse. This was demoralizing. It shattered my core identity. But I got sober.
