It can be a real challenge to get sober early in life while so many of our peers are partying and drinking.

But there’s a wonderful sober fellowship of young people in AA that’s here for the taking. They are here to help. As our Big Book says, “The most satisfactory years of your existence lie ahead.” This month’s special section features inspiring stories by alcoholics who got sober in their teens, 20s and 30s.

In the story “Secret Stash,” a high school girl finds there’s a much better answer to her problems of fitting in with others than the jar of 90-proof liquid hidden in her locker. A member in New Jersey finally finds the fellowship he was craving with young people’s meetings in “Out of the Woods.” Once so drunk he couldn’t leave his dorm room, a young man in “Dreams and Waterfalls” is now seeing the world. And in “Falling in Love With the Universe,” a young AA member finds his sober crew at an event under the stars way out in the Nevada desert.
