Absenteeism Cut

Gordon Chase, [New York] City Health Services Administrator, announced that a preliminary survey showed the absentee rate of employees in two city departments was down considerably since the employees' entry into the city's employee alcoholism program.

Mr. Chase said the absentee rate of the first 50 men entering the program from the sanitation department dropped to .88 days a month from 7.58 days a month six months after the men joined the program. The absentee rate of the first 10 men entering the program from the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs Administration dropped to 1.97 days a month from 2.98 days two months after their admission.
