A Student of Alcoholics Anonymous

After she graduated from college, she became a student learning a new way of life—one without alcohol

My sponsor always says that when I tell my story I should tell you my name and tell you the truth. My name is Kate and I am an alcoholic, so that is one part done. I’m not so sure I am going to tell you the truth, however. The reason for this is that I never paid much attention to my life when I was out drinking because I didn’t know I was going to end up here and that I would be expected to report back on what happened and what it was like. Had I known this, I would have taken notes and not drank so much! A lot of what happened to me has been reported back to me by my family and friends. I think it was probably physically impossible to drink a larger quantity of alcohol than I consumed—and I drank it with a sense of urgency and desperation.
