One woman’s journey

She learned to get honest, take care of herself and to her surprise, have friendships with other women

This is not intended as a treatise on sex. Nor do I claim that women are special in their recovery through AA or have a tougher time of it than men. My purpose here is to share my experience, strength and hope as a single woman who is a recovering alcoholic.

When I first entered an AA meeting room in 1971, in a middle-sized southeastern city, there was one other woman who attended meetings there regularly. She and I had a great many things in common, including a lack of acceptance and a refusal to admit powerlessness.
