Diamond in the Rough

Early sobriety can be a bumpy ride, but some days it’s like a smooth ride in a shiny new car

The other night, I was talking to a friend outside of my AA meeting. “It seems like I was more on top of things when I was drinking,” he said. “I always paid my bills on time. I had a steady job.”

“Me too,” I replied. “I held a job for 15 years and showed up hungover every day. It was in sobriety that they let me go. In fact, I didn’t put a dent in my car until I was running late for an AA meeting one night. When I was drinking, I never even put a scratch on it.”
