Entertaining Thoughts

Last week I visited a local mineral springs, hoping that a hot soak would provide relief for some work-related aches and pains. It worked. Returning home, I felt rejuvenated and after spending an hour or so in 100-degree water, quite thirsty—parched, in fact.

Amazingly, among the beverages that crossed my mind that morning was a G & T. It’s been decades since I drank a gin and tonic, but the memory of the taste came back as vividly as if I had one in my hand. It scared the hell out of me. And even though I have many years sober, I know that entertaining that thought for too long could place me on a very slippery slope.
