Holiday surprise

As a special treat, she brought goodies to her AA meeting. What could possibly go wrong?

Growing up, I always had a set of standards and values by which I tried to live. I was a responsible person, a person who kept her word, a truthful person. When I crossed that invisible line between social and alcoholic drinking, it became harder and harder to stick to those values of which I was most proud.

One by one, those values disappeared. I could no longer uphold them and keep on drinking the way I was. A member once wrote the following in our district newsletter: “I was violating my standards faster than I could lower them.” That described perfectly my downward slide.
