Following Jack

Amazing things can happen when you start asking your sponsor a bunch of questions about service

My sponsor Jack was very active in service and he helped me get into treatment and corrections work. One day when I had about three years sober, I became curious about what he did each second Sunday of the month, so asked him about it. He told me that he went to something called the area assembly.

From Jack’s description, it sounded to me as if the assembly was experiencing some controversy. He said that there was some of that. “I don’t like controversy,” I said, knowing that I had a history of getting angry when other people disagreed with my views. He replied that maybe general service was not for me.
