Accessibilities Pamphlet: New Title, Broader Mission

In the spirit of AA’s primary purpose, in recent years GSO’s Treatment & Accessibilities assignment, with the guidance of the trustees’ committee on Treatment & Accessibilities, has broadened its mission: ensuring that the message is carried to ALL ALCOHOLICS WHO FACE OBSTACLES—be they mental, physical, geographic, cultural, ethnic, emotional or spiritual.

Major updates to relevant AA literature and service material reflect this shift, with the more inclusive language of “accessibility” replacing the narrower terminology of “special needs.” The newly titled pamphlet “Accessibility for All Alcoholics” features a new cover and introduction, along with a dozen stories by members with accessibility issues. (The companion DVD in American Sign Language is currently being updated.) Similarly, the newly expanded service piece “Serving All Alcoholics” (available on conveys the broader outreach.
