A meeting took him by surprise and gave him a fresh look at his life and a big dose of gratitude

I recently was asked to speak at a meeting with a non-traditional format and I was absolutely excited to find out what it would be. As I sat front and center facing the room, a person sitting to my left began interviewing me, asking me questions about my life, my alcoholism, my sobriety and my recovery.

It wasn’t the format that took me by surprise so much; it was the questions. I was excited to respond to them. It was like telling my story, except that the story was coming out in answer form. Some of my responses to the questions caused me to consider things I haven’t thought about or talked about in a very long time. I found myself thinking about my relationship with my mother, before and after I got sober.
