The Florida Accident

MIAMI, FLA.--Thanks to alcohol and other drugs, many motorists are dying, not only on the highways, but in the man-made canals of this section of Florida. In the last 10 years, 146 motorists have driven off the roads and into the canals, Dr. Joseph H. Davis, chief medical examiner of Dade County, said. In almost every case, alcohol or other drugs were involved.

"The water soaks up the G forces, and you rarely find any injuries in this type of accident. You usually find a drunk, who's drowned." Such drownings, which he called "the Florida accident," make up about 17% of the average 90 drownings per year here.
