Doin’ time with Aunt Suzy

I always felt alone growing up. I started drinking at age 12. By 19, I was dealing with legal issues, and by 24, I was on my way to prison.

In jail, I began attending AA meetings and found a sense of peace surrounded by my fellows. Something was still bothering me though. With help from Step Four, I learned how alone I had always felt, different from everyone else in my family. They could drink responsibly. I could never do that.

It was then I remembered my dad telling me about my Aunt Suzy. She too had struggled with alcoholism. And wouldn’t you know it, a year into my incarceration, my Higher Power put me in contact with her.
