A father's wish

Years of drinking had driven his sons away. Now he wanted more than anything to have them back in his life

Near the end of my drinking, I lost my children. My two sons were not taken away. I pushed them away. I had no time for them because all I wanted to do was work and drink.

In sobriety, when I became ready for a relationship with my kids, they were unwilling. It was exactly like the Harry Chapin song, “Cat’s in the Cradle,” in which the father has no time for his son. Then the tables are turned when the boy grows to manhood and has no time for his dad.
