Skid row is disappearing. And what will replace it has some researchers worried. An example is New York City's "single room occupancy" buildings where, in certain buildings, the alcoholism rate is 90%.
More research is needed into the ramifications for skid-rowers of the disappearance of this phenomenon, say Harvey A. Seigal and Carl D. Chambers, both of the Resource Planning Corporation of Miami and Washington, D.C., and David M. Peterson of Georgia State University in Atlanta.
