Not a river in Egypt

Even in sobriety, denial ruled his life. But Step Six and a cool Higher Power helped him begin to accept reality and lift his head out of the sand

"Your daughter has something in her lung,” the doctor said. “She needs to have it removed and it needs to be today.”

My daughter was 18 months old when she inhaled a popcorn seed deep into her left lung. It was a big deal and had to be surgically removed. When the doctor used words like “probability of death” and said, “She could incur permanent damage,” well, let’s just say that I handled the news like I usually handle anything that scares me.
