Still growing

I had no desire to stop drinking when my doctor sent me to AA. I just wanted to stop being sick. I wanted to stop bringing shame to my family. I wanted control over my life.

I had just finished nine months of church-centered sobriety when alcoholism tapped me on my shoulder. Like an ex-lover, it whispered in my ear, “Come back to me. I won’t hurt you. Remember all the good times?”
