LOS ANGELES, CALIF.--The rules for entering the Alcoholic Olympics are simple. "They have to show up sober," said Kurt M. Freeman, executive director of the meet. The participants in the special Olympics are ex-drunks who no longer drink.

"You take a guy who never got recognition and became a chronic drunk," Freeman said. "Competition in physical activity plays an important part in recovery. We get our competitors from various rehab centers and recovery groups."
