FORT WALTON BEACH, FLA.--A gin-drinking contest between two men who tried to settle a dispute over their liquor capacities ended with both contestants dead, the police say.

The police said that Walter Wade, 39, and Eugene Cole, 32, had died after the owner of a tavern they frequented decided to end their argument over drinking prowess by holding a drinking contest Sunday night.

The contest was called off when neither man could drink any more. Each had consumed from 32 to 48 ounces of gin in less than an hour.

Mr. Cole was found unconscious on a street near his home...
