This sober businesswoman’s career really took off, but her program ran out of steam

I lost myself when drinking and drugging. I didn’t lose my job, my car or my home. I thought these possessions meant I was successful. In fact, I was the top salesperson nationally for my company the year I got sober.

Besides being an alcoholic, I was also a workaholic. I came from a family that appeared to be upper middle-class but who couldn’t always afford to heat the house. My grandiose alcoholic parents lived well beyond their means, and life was always a financial struggle.
