Pub tour!

A man tests himself on a trip to Europe with a bunch of old Army drinking buddies. Boy, was that dumb

About 10 years ago, when I had 15 years of sobriety under my belt, I agreed to meet up for a reunion with some friends I had served with during my Army career. One was an Australian and the other a Brit, both of whom I met during a two-year tour in Melbourne.

I knew it would be a dangerous idea to meet them in Europe because we had been serious drinking buddies long before I got sober. The most dangerous thinking I’ve ever been guilty of during my sobriety is what came next. I made the decision to go on the trip and said to myself: If I really feel like taking a drink, I will. I figured I would just start all over in AA with a white chip. Boy, that was dumb.
