What Triggers Drinking?

Dr. John Tamerin, director of research at the Silver Hill Foundation, New Canaan, Conn., splits the complex process [of alcoholism] into four stages: (1) situational stress, (2) the arousal of emotion, (3) the evoked desire to drink, and (4) the act of drinking.
