The nation's oldest hospital, founded in 1751 by Benjamin Franklin, has begun a new program of alcoholism treatment. The Institute of Pennsylvania Hospital, a private psychiatric hospital in West Philadelphia, has opened an alcoholism unit called the Strecker Hall Program, in memory of Dr. Edward A. Strecker, a pioneer in alcoholism treatment, who initiated the care of alcoholic patients at the institute during the 1930's.
