Letter from the Editor

When someone walks through the doors of AA for the first time, they are often broken and hurting and not really sure what to do. Luckily, AA has a world of tools for new members to make it through the day so they don’t pick up that first drink until they can make it to another meeting. There is much hope found here in the rooms. In this month’s special section, we feature stories for day counters to hopefully help them grab onto this life-saving program.

In the story “It’s the First Car,” a newcomer from Chicago is reminded about that first drink every time he hears a nearby train on the tracks on which he once stumbled drunk. In another story, a news reporter gets a rocky start at her very first meeting and soon learns that not all meetings are alike in “Gotta Shop Around.” A newcomer in Vermont begins to come out of the darkness and feel her insides waking up in “Feeling Again.” And in the sweet story, “A to Zzzzz,” a newcomer in Virginia shares a foolproof, dreamy way to get both gratitude and sleep.
