She found a dreamy way to get both gratitude and sleep and not have to count those shaggy sheep

Apples. Animals. Alcoholics Anonymous.
I don’t remember if I heard the suggestion in a meeting or read it somewhere, but it went something like this: If you’re having trouble sleeping because of worry, try going through the alphabet and counting all the things for which you are grateful. 

I am a lifelong worrier with many sleepless nights to show for my anxiety. It’s one of the things, I believe, that led me down the path to alcoholism. “Worry,” as the old saying goes, “is like a rocking chair. It keeps you busy but doesn’t get you anywhere.”
