How an uncomfortable trip across L.A. became a wonderful chance to reach out

Two and half years ago, I got sober. I began to find myself again. I felt that I had been given a second chance. Quite simply, people around me believed in me when I no longer believed in myself.

My family has always been first in my mind when I think of those who gave me this second chance. But over time, my sober network grew as I continued to grow. Now my best friends are sober, my partner is sober, my boss knows I am sober, my sponsees are sober, people come to me for advice and I help run meetings in West Hollywood. I walk home at night with literature on my back, along with boxes of cookies and coffee filters for the next meeting. This second chance has grown into my entire life.
