Practicing Principles

Pausing, praying, talking—a time-honored way to overcome anger, fear and resentment

Practicing principles before personalities was confusing and difficult for me to understand in early sobriety, and can still cause me difficulties today.

Over time I have learned it is necessary to incorporate kindness and patience along with love and tolerance. When things like anger, fear, resentment, hate and pride pop up, I need to pause, pray, talk with another alcoholic and turn my attention to someone I can help. Simple, but not easy, when selfishness and self-centeredness is the root of my problem.
