The Moonshine Gap

Prof. Vladimir G. Treml, an economist at Duke University, has discovered that the Soviet Union has outstripped the clandestine efforts of American moonshiners. In the Journal of Studies on Alcohol, published by the Rutgers University Center of Alcohol Studies, Prof. Treml says that the Soviety Union ranks first in the world in consumption of distilled spirits per person of drinking age (over 15), and that moonshine contributes "25 to 30%" of the alcohol.
