Money Threat Sways Hospitals

All general hospitals in Maryland have signed a Certificate of Compliance, indicating their agreement to admit alcohol abusers and alcoholics without discrimination. This action was the result of a memorandum from Neil Solomon, MD, Ph.D., secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene, that warned general hospitals that they were in danger of losing Federal funding if they did not comply with Section 321. (a) of the Comprehensive Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, Prevention, Treatment, and Rehabilitation Act of 1970.
