Confessions of a high school cheerleader

When the cheering stopped, she made a play to join the winning team

Here are a few words no 16-year-old girl dreams of saying: “My name is Jennifer and I’m an alcoholic.” 

I started drinking when I was about 8. We lived in Omaha, Nebraska. My parents would have parties and give me sips of their drinks, like scotch and water, amaretto or orange juice and vodka. We’d also have wine on special occasions. I liked the taste and the special feeling of drinking a “grown-up” drink.
