Before we are halfway through

A member takes us on a long, wonderful journey as she makes her Ninth Step amends and clears a path to freedom

Step Nine: Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

I’ve been working on Step Nine for months now, even though I started making living amends on a daily basis as soon as I got sober and got a sponsor. Almost immediately it felt good to be kind, thoughtful and dependable instead of angry, selfish and unreliable. But I was so tangled in knots of self-pity and misguided “righteous” indignation that serenity and the ability to see my part in either the past or present eluded me. Working the Steps helped untie the knots.
