The United States continues to lead the Western world in fire deaths, and sociological investigations are needed to find out why, Federal experts say.

Examination of death certificates made available by the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare has yielded new statistics, and it now appears that there are about 7,500 fire deaths a year in the United States.
