January 2011: Cat Power

A playful paw helps shift her perceptions

But as her little paw gently tugged my hand toward her a thought like a tiny wildflower began to bloom in my heart.

It was early, only 6:30 a.m., and the day was going to be hot. I was mildly sullen and already moving slowly in anticipation of the heat. I had already informed my lovable labradoodle, Jack, and my interloping cat, Tripod, as they jubilantly met me in the kitchen, that although they could see me, I was not yet open for business. I needed coffee and conscious contact.

After finishing my prayers, I thought I would read the Daily Reflections in search of some wisdom that would help me to know and surrender to God’s will. The previous evening, I had sheepishly confessed in my home group that I was feeling restless and discontented without a reason I could put my finger on. During the meeting, I came to the conclusion that even though I was trudging the road, I must be in self-will, which, according to the Big Book, will always put me in collision with something or someone, even myself.
