Rod McMurray, of the New River Mental Health Center, Jefferson, N.C., said the area is "the belt buckle of the Bible Belt, and most folks put a very heavy judgment on alcohol as being an evil thing. Thus, there is very little responsible drinking going on, because people figure ten drinks are just as bad as one, so they drink to get drunk."
