86 That Drunk!

The term "86" is used widely by bartenders and others to indicate that a customer is in his cups and must not be served another drink. I recently quoted an authority to the effect that numbers were once used as codes in soda fountains. Eighty-six signaled, as noted, that one soda spigot or a certain dish was kaput.
