Book Review - Not-God - A History of Alcoholics Anonymous

Both scholarly and readable, this substantial book is likely to be of interest to AAs and of use to people in the alcoholism field. Writer Ernest Kurtz has done a scrupulous research job. Though this is not an AA publication, he was given access to our archives and other historical materials. The jacket blurbs--a type of writing prone to exaggeration--call it "complete access." But the error is corrected at the back of the book in the voluminous "Notes" section, as lively as the text itself. Here, Dr. Kurtz acknowledges that he could consult only the parts of the AA archives made available for such purposes by the AA General Service Board.
