Superheroes Aren't Immune

With the support of a grant from NIAAA [National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism] to the Scientific Analysis Corporation to study "Alcohol, Mass Media, and Public Education," W. Breed and J. R. DeFoe have looked at ways in which alcohol use is portrayed in comic books, campus newspapers, magazines, and alcohol ads in magazines. They concluded that "comic books almost never show minors drinking. What they do show could, however, add to the subtle buildup of the idea that drinking is good--after all, many heroes do it."
