In Pass It On, early AAs tell the story of an alcoholic-addict who comes to a meeting dressed in partial drag. The meeting is abuzz with whether he should be permitted to remain and recover. After much argument, the conclusion is drawn: The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. And this member stayed.
